Key Trends Impacting Retinal Laser Care in 2018

Where is retinal laser care heading in 2018? We have looked at results on “Preferences and Trends (PAT)” from a survey by the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS) presented at the association’s annual meeting 2017. Here are our top picks of responses from ASRS members, which highlight the role of retinal laser in 2018.

For full survey results, please contact the ASRS susan.raef(@)asrs.org or get in touch with OD-OS to learn more.

Our top picks:

Macular grid laser is initial treatment choice in non-foveal CSDME

In the survey, macular grid laser is chosen by almost half of the physicians as the preferred method of active initial treatment in the management of clinical significant DME not involving the foveal center.

Physicians choose PRP to manage high-risk PDR

More than 90 % of physicians say they apply PRP to treat PDR with no DME - suggesting laser is seen as first line of care for DR patients.

Many physicians recommend laser in combination with Anti-VEGF

When CSDME is present along with PDR, more than 70 % of physicians recommend PRP plus focal laser after Anti-VEGF. The major concern for stand-alone Anti-VEGF therapy is patient compliance.

The Navilas navigated retina laser offers a beneficial treatment option for each of these applications with fast PRP and precise focal laser treatment – pre-planned, computer guided and digitally documented. With its unique capabilities, Navilas reduces treatment burden and allows physicians to treat retinal disorders with confidence. Since the launch of the compact Navilas 577s a year ago, it has received very positive feedback by leading retina specialists worldwide.
